Ooey Gooey Chocolate Apple Cake with Caramel Frosting
Here’s an over-the-top ooey gooey chocolate cake that has a splash of healthy since it has apples in it. I suppose the apples don’t really make it healthy at all but it does add a layer of flavor. When you combine the chocolate, apples, and caramel you end up with a heavenly treat.
Gooey Chocolate Apple Cake Recipe
Baking Time: 55 minutes
Ingredients:
3 large eggs
2 C sugar
1 C unsalted sweet cream butter
½ C water
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 ½ C flour
¼ C cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
¼ tsp kosher salt
2 C chopped gala apples
1 C chocolate chips
13×9 cake pan
Caramel frosting:
1 C light brown sugar
½ C unsalted sweet cream butter
6 tbsp whole milk
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 C powdered sugar
Chocolate shavings
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 and spray a 13×9 baking pan with pam baking spray Using a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, allspice, and salt
Using a standing mixer, cream together the eggs, sugar, butter, water, and vanilla until combined and fluffy
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Pour half the batter into the pan and sprinkle the apples evenly over the batter Pour the remaining batter over the apples.
Bake in the oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove and allow to cool while you make the caramel frosting.
Using a medium pot, heat the butter, brown sugar, and milk whisking constantly until it starts to boil.
Remove from the stove and stir in the vanilla and powdered sugar.
Pour the frosting onto the top of the cake and smooth it evenly.
Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the top of the cake.
